The Project

Nestled in the Shropshire countryside, this contemporary five-bedroom family home in Stanton upon Hine Heath balances modern architecture with its rural setting. The striking split-level design maximises sweeping countryside views whilst offering a warm, practical living space built on environmentally sustainable principles.

Our Role

We provided a comprehensive architectural service from inception to completion, including feasibility studies, scheme design, planning approval, detailed construction drawings, coordination with engineers and energy assessors, building regulations approval, and on-site construction supervision.

The Challenge

The site’s natural slope and panoramic views shaped our design approach. We positioned the main living spaces on the first floor to capture abundant natural light and frame the countryside views, whilst carefully considering the sun’s path to optimise each space throughout the day.

The interior is contemporary, spacious and energy-efficient, featuring air source underfloor heating and BecoWallform walls – an innovative insulated building system promoting Fabric First principles. The split-level entrance hall creates immediate drama, revealing all three floors and flooding the space with natural light.

The open-plan kitchen and family room, with its vaulted ceiling and glazed sliding doors, forms the heart of the home. A wraparound glazed terrace extends the connection to outdoors, whilst lower-ground bedrooms open directly onto a paved terrace and garden. A zinc roof completes the contemporary aesthetic with durability and crisp modern finish.

Outcome

This thoughtful design delivers a modern, energy-efficient home beautifully in tune with its landscape setting. Complete with a self-contained annexe, large workshop and store, and double garage, it’s a home designed for real life – one that doesn’t just sit in the landscape but belongs to it.
